Maximum Dehumidifier Mode (MDM)

MDM Overview

Excess humidity is the primary enemy of comfort in your home OR COMMERCIAL SPACE. It can also cause significant damage.

It is tough to adequately dehumidify in some residential, commercial, and industrial spaces – applications ranging from restaurants, and storage units, to sophisticated, clean rooms.

Dehumidifiers are simply too costly and often have unwanted condenser reheat.

The Innotek Air ByPass Dehumidifier (IABD) when set to the MDM, enables you to build your own dehumidifier using your own brand of off-the-self A/C equipment.

This mode prioritizes dehumidification without negatively impacting cooling. It uses an algorithm to optimize dehumidification when needed.

A/Cs alone do not deliver the dehumidification required for true comfort, but with the IABD set to the Maximum Dehumidifier Mode, they now can.

Introduction

Excess humidity is the primary enemy of comfort in your home OR COMMERCIAL SPACE. It can also cause significant damage.

For Your Information

A/C vs Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers are very expensive. They also have very high operating cost compared to A/Cs.

We significantly reduce costs by using inexpensive off-the-shelf A/Cs to dehumidify instead of costly custom-made equipment.

The IABD excels at maintaining humidity levels between 45% and 55%.

Dehumidification

Most dehumidifiers use “condenser reheat.” Their performance is rated at AHAM, which is 80° F and 60% RH, which can be misleading when rating performance.

We optimize our systems across various temperature and RH intake conditions.

Other Facts

You can combine the IABD with most HVAC brands and build your own dehumidifier at a fraction of the cost.

Our ByPass Dehumidifier when set to the TBD Mode, converts the A/C into a highly efficient dehumidifier.

Maximum Dehumidifier Mode Benefits

DRAWING 1

The IABD set to MDM is an INEXPENSIVE dehumidification solution because it uses less costly A/C equipment, not expensive custom-made dehumidifiers.

IN THIS MODE:

The IABD provides cool, dry air instead of cold, wet air.

The IABD dissipates the heat outside, not inside.

The IABD makes any A/C dehumidify efficiently, not only at AHAM (80° F / 60% RH).

It can be installed as a stand-alone unit or integrated with single or multiple central systems as shown in Drawing 2.

You can integrate the IABD with most brands of split A/C and indoor equipment having a single or 2-stage outdoor condenser.

DRAWING 2

How Does It Work?

The IABD consists of a modulating bypass fan, a motorized damper, a transformer, and the InnoTek Air ByPass Dehumidifier Controller (IABDC).

The system is attached directly to a SINGLE OR 2-STAGE split-type cooling system parallel to the cooling coil.

The in the Maximum Dehumidifier Mode (MDM), the IABD is ducted to DIVERT and BYPASS the air around the indoor blower unit cooling coil. This method causes the coil’s operating temperature to drop SIGNIFICANTLY, greatly increasing dehumidification. The bypass air rejoins the airflow to provide dry and cool air instead of cold and wet air.

The InnoTek Air ByPass Dehumidifier Controller (IABDC)

  • Brain

It is the "brain" of the IABD. It enables the IABD to receive the information it needs to ensure that the air is properly dehumidified.

  • Controller

It controls the IABD, including the A/C equipment. You will require an indoor thermostat if any heating is needed.

  • Thermostat

It can use an app. from a smart thermostat such as ECOBEE.

  • Dehumidification Settings

It controls the desired dehumidification setting, monitors the indoor dewpoint and suction temperature, and modulates the bypass fan using a set algorithm. This results in maximum dehumidification.

  • Latent Cooling

The focus of the controller is to maximize latent cooling.

  • Second Dehumidification Stage

It can add a second dehumidification stage to control any heat source.

Maximum Dehumidifier Mode Specifications (MDM)

Overview of Specifications

The IABD in MDM works with any split-type air conditioner to optimize A/C dehumidification for a true comfort experience.

  • DRAWING 2 shows the IABD-MDM integrated and ducted into two central systems.
  • The Inline fan comes with a 6-foot plug-in cable.
  • The controller (IABDC) can be mounted on a wall and connected to the inline fan within 75 feet by control wiring.
  • The IABD comes with an indoor sensor that connects to the controller and cannot exceed 75 feet of wiring from the controller.

  • IABD -10

A/C SIZES

IABD-MDM can be installed with a split-type cooling system, either a single or 2-stage ranging from 1.5 to 5-ton

INSTALLATION

They are two ways to install the ByPass Dehumidifier in MDM, attached to an indoor blower and coil.

DRAWING 1 shows an installation where the cooling coil connects to the supply duct of the indoor blower.

DRAWING 3 shows the scenario of the cooling coil in the return duct.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The IABD, complete with the split type A/C system, can be integrated with one or multiple central systems, as shown in Drawing 2.

RESTRICTIONS

It cannot be installed with a ductless system or any system with an inverter-type compressor.
